Sunda Shelves

Sunda Shelves is a small independent bookshop that opened its doors in 2023, and specialises in new, preloved and rare books on nature, culture and travel in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Some of these books are self-published or published by local NGOs/social enterprises and therefore not easily available from most bookshops.

In addition to books, we carry a range of curated merchandise related to Malaysian nature and culture. This includes greeting cards, postcards, art prints, batik products, artisanal (including Orang Asli) handicrafts, Malaysian games and plush toys.

Founded by conservationists, Sunda Shelves has become a hub for nature-related events and activities. We regularly conduct book launches, storytelling sessions, as well as talks and workshops on a wide range of topics, by specialists and creatives who generously share their knowledge and passion for our natural and cultural landscapes. Our space may also be hired for private events such as meetings, workshops and training.

Sunda Shelves provides book curation services to anyone planning to grow a collection of books related to nature, culture and travel in Southeast Asia. This may include corporate entities that have a library or resource centre; learning institutions such as universities and schools; or hotels and F&B outlets that want to start a reading corner.
